Housing the focus of study

EXAMINING how the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) can best use its own resources, or other sources of funding, to meet Defence’s housing arrangement is the focus of a scoping study being conducted by the Department of Finance and Administration.

The study will concentrate on options for the property assets of DHA, examining, among other things, the success of DHA’s current sale and leaseback program.

The Government is committed to the continued provision of quality housing for ADF members and their families and the study is being conducted in a manner consistent with this commitment.

The Department of Finance and Administration has sought input to the study from interested parties, including Defence, DHA, Defence Families of Australia (DFA) and the Armed Forces Federation of Australia.

In recent weeks, members of the study team have visited DHA Management Centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, Darwin and Katherine.

It is expected that the scoping study will be finalised by early 2003.

Further information can be obtained from Robert McKellar, Acting Director Defence Shareholder Advice, on (02) 6265 3733 or robert.mckellar@defence.gov.au.
