Variable working hours possible

Air Force personnel who work extra and irregular hours can now apply for variable working hours.

Under DI(G) Pers 49-2, ADF members can apply to vary their hours where feasible. The new DI(G) allows applications to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The aim is to provide the scope and flexibility for variable-working practices for personnel to pursue areas such as education, further training, career progression or other special circumstances – however, the unit’s operational capability comes first.

Individuals might apply to vary their hours as a one-off case or as an ongoing arrangement during a positing period.

Variable working hours should not result in long-term disparity between the total working hours of a member with a normal working routine and a member with a variable working arrangement.
