Force cricketers dominated selection for the Australian Services
Cricket Association (ASCA) side, picked after the National Interservice
Carnival to play two games against the Queensland under-19s and
contest the Byrnes Sears Trophy against the New Zealand Defence
Force cricket team.
Nine players gained selection in the 13-man squad, which was captained
by Air Force team captain Leading Aircraftman Michael Gunn and included
player of the series Corporal Greg Weller.
LAC Gunn said it was a great honour being named captain in what
would be his fourth appearance for the ASCA side.
Just to be part of the heritage that exists with Australian
services cricket is an honour within itself and if I can write only
a small part in the book, then its a privilege, LAC
Gunn said. No matter whos in the side, everybody lifts
a bit because they know theyre playing for something thats
just a little bit higher than where theyve been.
The announcement of the ASCA team was made at a formal presentation
after the national carnival at the function room of the Queensland
Cricket Associations Allan Border Oval.
Queensland Cricket Association president John Forrest was thanked
for his support of the national carnival by providing first-class
facilities.
