Queen's
Honour
|
Owing
to its long history and achievements as a training institution,
RAAFSTT became the first Air Force unit to receive a
Queens Colour in 1971, an achievement that will
be celebrated in conjunction with the 50th anniversary.
A Queens Colour is a symbol of devotion to duty
and loyalty, providing a stimulus to unit morale and
esprit de corps.
To receive the honour, a unit must have been in existence
for 30 years or more and have contributed to high standards
of efficiency and loyalty. |

ONE
of the oldest and most diverse training institutes in the Air Force
is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Current and former RAAF School of Technical Training trainees, staff,
VIPs and guests will gather at RAAF Base Wagga on Friday, November
29, to celebrate the important milestone.
Celebrations will include a Colour Parade, to be reviewed by Chief
of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston, at 10am, featuring a Roulettes
flying display, an F/A-18 flyover; a Red Berets parachuting display,
the RAAF Central Band and a static display of Macchi aircraft.
Other events that day include an historical exhibition, a light
luncheon in the airmens mess for former staff and trainees
at noon, and a formal invitation-only dinner.
Officer Commanding RAAF Base Wagga Group Captain Rob Lawson said
the event had generated much interest.
Weve already had a lot of support from the local community
to ensure the day will be a success. The base is in a very upbeat
mood and reflects the efforts of those who have worked hard. This
will be a stellar event for a premier training organisation,
GPCAPT Lawson said.
On his third tour at RAAF Base Wagga, Commanding Officer RAAFSTT
Wing Commander Robert Scrivener is chuffed at seeing
the school develop to what it is today.
The base is elated in regard to this significant milestone
for the school and the celebrations will be like an early Christmas
present for staff, WGCDR Scrivener said.
The focus of staff at RAAFSTT is to see young people get through
their training and make a significant contribution to the Air Force.
Being in a teaching environment is very satisfying and rewarding.
I dont believe it gets any better than a posting here.
The role and purpose of RAAFSTT is to provide technical training
for Australian Defence Force personnel across a wide range of specialisations
including electricians, instrument makers, instrument repairers,
basic fitters, welders, cooks, mess stewards, x-ray technicians
and fire fighters.
RAAFSTT conducts more than 70 courses and has an annual student
intake of about 4000.
Graduates of the school contribute significantly to the operational
capability of the ADF in fields of aircraft maintenance, communication,
aircrew life support, explosive ordnance and other support functions
relating to engineering, supply, clerical and administration.
