WHEN the latest litter of pups (Echo litter) from RAAF Base Amberley’s puppy breeding program produced nine dogs it left staff at the base in a quandary – what to name each animal?

The base came up with names for two of the nine male pups, but needed help with identities for the remaining seven.

In conjunction with the children’s section of a local paper, it ran a “name the puppy” competition.

The competition was open to school children from grades 1-7, who were required to provide a name beginning with “E” and a drawing of one of the pups.

Winners received book prizes and a tour of the base, where they had the chance to meet and play with the puppies they had helped name.

The winning names were: Ethan, Emtee, Ernie, Erice, Elton, Ezzy and Epic.
