THE Air Force interservice canoeing competition will be held in conjunction with this year’s Red Cross Murray River Canoe Marathon (RCMRCM) from December 26-January 10.

The Murray Marathon is a charity event in which participants paddle 404km over five days from Yarrawonga to Swan Hill, raising funds for the Victorian Red Cross.

The Air Force has entered a team in this event continuously since the early 1970s.

Paddlers can enter the race as either a full distance paddler or as a member of a relay team, who paddle an average of 15km a day.

Serving members and Defence civilians who are interested in participating as either paddlers or ground crew can contact Flying Officer Gregory Hall at ASI-DGTA on (03) 92563750 or e-mail gregory.hall@defence.gov.au.

Selection trials for the 2002 Air Force team will be held over five days at the beginning of December on the Murray River at Cobram and Echuca.
