No flash in the pan

AIR Force, Army and Navy personnel from Australia and the United Sates had the chance to compare and hone their skills in a range of areas as part of the recent Exercise Flash Action.

It’s the first time this exercise has been held in Australia.

Scheduled to be an annual exercise, Flash Action has been hailed a success by organisers and participants.

It aimed to establish and maintain working relationships between US and local forces as well as test combined force interoperability.

About 80 personnel from the US, representing Air Force, Army and Navy bases in Okinawa, Guam and Utah, descended on the Jervis Bay Training area and, later, RAAF Base Richmond, joining about 140 members of the ADF in a variety of exercises.

A Company from the 4th Battalion Commandos from Holsworthy were heavily involved. Personnel from both countries compared and practiced their skills in a parachute insertion, amphibious operations and live-fire assaults.
