Townsville
opening
STAGE One of RAAF Base Townsvilles redevelopment will be
officially opened on Friday, October 4.
The first stage, completed at a cost of $70 million, incorporates
ordnance loading areas and operations facilities, a Combined Vehicle
Maintenance Facility and a fuel tanker facility.
Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston will join Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister for Defence Fran Bailey to officially
open the redevelopment.
Stage Two, meantime, has started with construction of Transit
Accommodation under way.
The second stage of the redevelopment will also include air terminal
facilities, tarmac extensions, a combined mess and a sporting
complex housing a gym and pool.
Command change
AIR Vice-Marshal Alan Titheridge has handed over leadership of
the Strategic Command Division to Major General Ken Gillespie.
AVM Titheridge said he had completed an interesting year as Head
Strategic Command.
I think that every HSC would leave this command saying they
have had it far busier than their predecessors, but with events
such as September 11 and the Tampa incident, my time has been
both challenging and enjoyable.
He said he looked forward to his new appointment working in special
projects for the CDF.
