In a
small ceremony on September 11, firefighters from RAAF Base Townsville
observed two minutes silence in memory of firefighters and other
emergency service personnel who died as a result of the terrorist
attacks on the World Trade Centre last year.
The ceremony was followed by the sounding of all the fire vehicle
emergency sirens, the universal signal for firefighters to evacuate
a building because of danger or collapse.
The combination of being in the ADF, being firefighters and working
at a joint-use airfield gives the members of Fire Section at Townsville
a unique understanding of the events of September 11 and of the
dangers inherent in their profession.
Senior Firefighter Flight Sergeant Bob Keane and Airfield Fire Controller
Sergeant Jeff Uyen-Fogarty organised the small tribute to fallen
comrades.
