Classic opportunity in NZ for Defence Force sailors

THE Royal New Zealand Navy has invited sailors from the ADF Sailing Association to participate in this year’s Lindaver Coastal Classic in October.

The 119 nautical mile classic starts in Auckland on October 25 and finishes in Russell on the Bay of Islands.

Last year’s event attracted 264 entries and the 2002 classic is expected to be even bigger.

The ADF Sailing Association has called for personnel to nominate for the following positions:

  • Skipper/Manager – must hold at least an AYF TL4 Coastal Skipper Certificate, current Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence and must possess relevant yachting experience. Current Level 2 First Aid and AYF Safety and Survival at Sea certificates are also desirable.
  • Mate – must hold at least an AYF TL4 Coastal Skipper Certificate, current Restricted Radio Operator Licence and have yacht racing experience. Level 2 First Aid and AYF Safety and Survival at Sea certificates are desirable.
  • Two watch leaders – experienced sailors who are competent to train and lead their watch.
  • Five crew – sailing experience preferable but not essential. Must be reasonably fit and willing to learn.

The ADF team will be required to be in New Zealand from October 20 to November 2.
For more information e-mail Flight Lieutenant Rob Saunders at nicnrob@austarmetro.com.au or phone 0417 275 016.
