AN Air Force member on exchange with the Royal Air Force has found himself in the thick of air-logistics operations in Afghanistan.

He was on exercise with his host unit in the Middle East when the events unfolded that led to the formation of the International Coalition Against Terrorism.

“I am currently on an exchange with the United Kingdom Mobile Movements Squadron,” he said. “I’ve been there a bit over 18 months now and my primary responsibility is world-wide mobile and movements operations.

“On September 11, I was in the Middle East for an exercise that turned into this operation.”

Now he has returned to Afghanistan for his second deployment to the operation this year.

“From February I was attached to ISAF as the OC Multi National Air Movements Squadron – Air Section, Kabul, in charge of 57 personnel.

“We’re responsible for everything to do with air movements, like marshalling, parking of aircraft as well as the theatre reception centre inbound and outbound,” he said.
