Putting on a spread for 200 of Queensland's Lord Mayors and their partners is just another day in the office for the kitchen staff at RAAF Base Amberley.

Amberley was able to showcase its culinary and entertainment skills by playing host to the annual Urban Local Government Association of Queensland Dinner on July 18.

Amberley Officer's Mess caterer Corporal Brett Byers, despite being on six weeks long-service leave, went back to work especially for the dinner and said it was just a typical big dinner for the kitchen team.

"I love the job, it's great doing dinners like this. It was just another normal night for us though - we even got to finish a bit earlier than usual," he said.

His team included Leading Aircraftman Kyle Mitchell, Leading Aircraftwoman Kellie Gavins and Corporal Denis Walters.

The Ipswich City Council was successful in its bid to host the conference, with its major attraction being the opportunity to enjoy a dining experience at the Air Force base.

Guests were treated to music by the RAAF's Force 10 Showband and Clarinet Quartet.
Ipswich Mayor John Nugent praised the food, service and music.

He said the members of the Air Force involved in the event had done the Service proud and he greatly appreciated their contribution to the conference.

"The hospitality of the Air Force was first class in every way, from the moment we were welcomed on the base," he said.
