Blazing a trail
Revved up for motocross camp

July 4, 2002

MEMBERS of the Defence Motorcycling Association are revving up for the Australian Defence Force Trail Bike Camp being held in Sydney from July 29 to August 4.
The course is designed to improve all riders' abilities and knowledge and test those newly acquired skills. The camp will culminate in the selection of the ADF team to compete in the Club Des National Championships at the end of the year.
RAAF Base Richmond's Warrant Officer Bruce Lowth, along with Army representatives Lieutenant Matt Bourke, Craftsman Jamie Birket and Private Christian May have raced successfully for the past two years with the support of Progrip Apparel and Off Roads Imports.
All members have been very successful competitively and in representing the ADF positively to the wider civilian community.
WOFF Lowth has participated in only a few races this year with postings and courses limiting time on track. On a borrowed bike, however, he has scored a few hole shots and adapted quickly to the much rougher conditions in NSW.
LT Bourke has raced several rounds of the National "Thumpers" series, acquitting himself exceptionally well considering it is a national level competition. He is currently within a podium finish of a series in the Sydney area with only a few rounds to complete.
Good finishes in the last couple of rounds will ensure a good finish to this year's racing and prepare both members for the Interservice Trail Bike Camp.
Others such as Adelaide-based riders Corporal Harding and Sergeant Jason Smart along with participants from Brisbane and further afield are expected to attend the Interservice camp in Sydney.
All Defence members are invited to attend the camp.
