Commissioning in the Service

Briefings at bases over the next month

May 23, 2002

To increase the awareness of commissioning opportunities in the Royal Australian Air Force, DPO-AF staff will be briefing interested airmen and airwomen, along with their superiors and administrative staff, on commissioning in the Service.

Wing Commander Bill Corbett, DDPO Appointment and Recruitment, who is the AFHQ Recruiting Liaison Officer, will be delivering briefs on officer targets for the 2002-03 financial year.

The briefings will also cover the commissioning process, the range of officer courses and avenues of entry for airmen and airwomen, and the attributes required for officer entry.

While this initiative should increase the pool of applicants in the short to medium term, the briefs are also designed to 'sow the seeds of thought' in airmen and airwomen in the longer term.

The briefs, lasting about 60 minutes, will be held as follows: Melbourne, 23 May, 1330-1430; Richmond, 31 May, 0900-1000; Perth, 6 June (time to be confirmed); Adelaide, 11 June (TBC); Darwin, 12 June (TBC); Tindal, 13 June (TBC); Wagga, 20 June, 1500-1600.

The Base Visits and Protocol staff have made arrangements for the briefs, which will be held in the Base cinemas.

As a further initiative of DPO-AF, Flight Lieutenant Rob Bellani, ENGLOG Cell in DPO-AF, will be giving briefs on the Airmen Access to the Academy Scheme (AAAS).

These briefs will specifically address airmen and airwomen commissioning opportunities as Engineers through the AAAS.

Times and locations will be advised when finalised, however, they will be given in the weeks following the general commissioning briefs.

Commanders are requested to release and encourage airmen and airwomen - and their supervisors and administrative staff - to attend these commissioning briefs.
