Members of the Ingham Golf Club were recently cleaning out some cupboards and unearthed the Perpetual Trophy - the prize contested between the Ingham Golf Club and the RAAF Townsville Golf Club.

The trophy was last fought for and won by Ingham in 1987, according to the most recent plaque inscription on the trophy.

After some negotiation between the two clubs, RAAF Townsville put together a team of 10 Air Force people and Defence civilians who travelled to Ingham Golf Club to play the first round of a two-round four-ball-best-ball (4BBB) stableford competition on 17 March.

The Ingham players were very hospitable and sportsmanlike, letting the visitors know about the hidden dangers and hazards on their course.

This ensured, of course, that the Air Force team hit every one of the hazards.

The day was deemed a success, with Air Force narrowly defeating Ingham 219 to 210 points.

Warrant Officer Keith Dyson and Gary Evans finished with a massive 50 points, while the rest of the teams were somewhat more restrained.

This game has stirred up the Ingham members, who are determined to retain the trophy after the second round, to be held in Townsville around July.
