A message from the Air Force News team

December, 2001

The new year is set to bring some big changes to Air Force News - the biggest of which is the move to a fortnightly edition.

In place of one large newspaper, we will produce two smaller editions, ensuring you are kept up to date with what's happening in and around your Royal Australian Air Force.

The first of the fortnightly papers will hit the streets on Thursday, 31 January 2002. And every pay day after that, you will have a new Air Force News.

To make the transition smooth, and to keep you happy, we need your understanding and assistance.

To our loyal readers and contributors, we say thank you. Your support and contributions have, and will continue to be, valued and welcomed.

We're sure you'll enjoy receiving your Air Force News twice as often.

Due to the reduction in paper size, however, we have set a number of guidelines for our contributors:

  • News articles should:
  • - be no more than 400 words
    - include a by-line

  • Feature articles should:

    - be no more than 700 words
    - include a by-line

  • Articles longer than the stipulated word count will be cut as necessary and articles without by-lines may not be run. We are willing to negotiate if the article cannot meet the above requirements, but must be included in full.
  • All names in articles must be written in full, including rank, and any acronymns spelled out.
  • Photographs should:

  • - be clear and in focus
    - be 300dpi (electronic images)
    - be accompanied by a caption with the rank and full names of those in the picture and an explanation of what they are doing
  • Photographs embedded in a document cannot be used - they must be separate jpegs.
  • Articles and photographs are preferred in electronic format. If you don't have access to the required technology, hardcopy photographs and articles saved to a disk can be posted.
  • Due to the frequency of the paper, deadlines must be strictly adhered to. Anything received after the copy deadline will be run at the Editor's discretion or held until the next edition.

Anyone with concerns is encouraged to contact us.
