A Chapter of Endless Possibilities:
the birth of Australian military aviation

World War I witnessed the birth of military aviation. This evolutionary step in the conduct of war will be the subject of the ninth RAAF History Conference to be held on 24 August at the National Convention Centre, Canberra.

Presenters at the conference include:
Group Captain Ian MacFarling served as a navigator for both the RNZAF and RAAF. He has held positions in various ADF educational institutions and has also served with DSTO and HQADF;
Mr Peter O'Sullivan, a graduate of RMC spent 20 years in the Army, serving in regimental and staff domains, with military intelligence, and later within the Acquisition and Capability programs;
Group Captain Mark Lax, CSM was navigator in the RAAF and has also held command positions in East Sale and Richmond. The past year he has been the National Security Fellow at the JFK School of Government;
Dr Colin Martin has had several years of experience in the aerospace industries and has held many academic and research positions in the fields of flight and aerodynamics. In July, Dr Martin was appointed Chief of Air Operations Division of DSTO;
Dr John Mordike, an ex-Army officer of 17 years, is currently the historical analyst at the Aerospace Centre; and
Dr Alan Stephens is the author of numerous books and articles on security, military history, doctrine and air power. Previously, he was a pilot in the RAAF and currently he is on secondment to the History Department at ADFA.

Lunch and refreshments are included in the registration fee and the proceedings of the conference will be published and sent to all delegates.
