RAAF peacekeepers meet Chief of Army

March, 2001

During a recent visit to East Timor, Lieutenant General Peter Cosgrove, Chief of Army, paid an impromptu visit to Comoro Airfield Support Group (CASG) to meet Air Force members of No. 386 Expeditionary Combat Support Squadron (Detachment East Timor).

The General and his entourage were met at the CASG Headquarters by the CO CASG, Wing Commander Mike Gower, who escorted them to the Mess Tent for breakfast.

General Cosgrove sat among the airmen and airwomen of the CASG, asking and answering numerous questions. He was then escorted to various sections within the CASG, where he warmly greeted each member.

General Cosgrove asked each person what their role was and what their thoughts were. The General even gave insight into what conditions were like when he was Commander INTERFET.

Before leaving, General Cosgrove happily posed for quite a number of photographs.
