Help for heavy workloads

March, 2001

A new plan to attract former personnel back to the RAAF is aiming to help alleviate high workloads in critically understaffed areas.

The reappointment and re-enlistment drive, which was launched in February, will initially target key areas such as Aerospace Engineering, Air Traffic Control, Pilots, Airborne Electronics Analysis and Flight Engineering.

Only categories, specialisations and musterings that cannot be staffed by existing personnel will be targeted for reappointment and re-enlistment and there will be strict guidelines used to determine who is able to re-enlist.

In particular, in developing the targets for reappointment and re-enlistment any potential for adverse impact on promotion progression has been considered to ensure individuals who are promotable are not disadvantaged.

In this way, existing personnel will benefit with an easing off of high workloads, but will still have all the career opportunities open to them currently.

The reappointment and re-enlistment scheme will also contribute to more flexible work practices in the RAAF and will hopefully demonstrate to personnel that there is an opportunity to return to the Air Force after separation.

Future advertising will seek expressions of interest in other musterings and specialisations that are experiencing high workloads due to shortfalls in personnel.
