Fully equipped

Volume 48, No. 8, May 18, 2006

44WG’s CPL Phil Nickols
44WG’s CPL Phil Nickols

CPL Phil Nickols of the 44WG Detachment Darwin decided to enhance the Detachment’s Ground Electronic Services (GES) maintenance capabilities and was awarded an ACAUST Commendation for his efforts.

He developed a computer program designed to ensure there was an organised daily maintenance schedule for the Detachment’s equipment, ensuring nothing was overlooked.

“It was hard staying on top of all the little jobs, and on occasions, some were missed altogether,” CPL Nickols said.

“I wanted a system to assist with the GES Section maintenance requirements. Something that worked on a day-to-day level, rather than the big catch up at audit time.”

The audit team were also impressed by the program and approved it for use at the Detachment. They also recommended its use by other 44WG Detachments.

“The award ... that was just a big bonus. I was a little surprised that it came from so high, but of course I’m happy about it,” he said.
