STUDENTS
at Townsvilles Cranbrook State School got up close and personal
with Military Working Dog (MWD) Sam and local Air Force members
with an action packed visit by 323 Combat Support Squadron (323CSS).
Kicked off with a 1 Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) Band concert,
the visit late last year was organised by 323CSS Operations Cell
Visits Co-ordinator Corporal Jackie Bishop.
It was a great opportunity for the school kids to see some
of the things their parents do during their working hours and
also for children outside the military community to see what the
military is all about, CPL Bishop said.
Awesome was the word one student used to describe
the experience, which saw 323CSS personnel warmly welcomed into
the school community.
The students and their teachers were treated to a MWD display
thanks to CPL Lyle Douglas, Leading Aircraftman Chris Bird and
Leading Aircraftwoman Erin Dedman. However MWD Sam was the star,
and lapped up the attention.
CPL Bishop and Sergeant Vicki Schlenka wowed onlookers with a
vehicle display of an LR110 Landrover and Unimog.
Flight Lieutenant Peter Travers and SGT John Annings display
including ration packs, radios, back packs, tents, and cam paint
application, proved popular.
323CSS has regular involvement with the local community through
open days and tours at the Base each year for students of local
schools.
