That's
Somme front
THREE
Air Force cadets have been among a group of 12 ADF recruits who
have travelled the Western Front as part of the inaugural Spirit
of ANZAC tour and RSL-ADF Cadet of the Year Scheme.
Flight Sergeant (AAFC) Nathan Bolger, Warrant Officer (AAFC) Hannah
Austen and Cadet Under Officer (AAFC) Robert Schneider visited
significant sites such as the Somme, the Australian Memorial Park
at Le Hamel in France, the City of Bruges and the site of the
Battle of Waterloo during January.
They were guests of the Mayor of Villers-Bretonneux and they also
attended an evening service of the Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony.
The RSL-ADF Cadet of the Year Scheme, run since 2003, gives up
to 24 of Australia’s top ADF cadets the opportunity each year
to visit historic sites of Australian wartime involvement and
heroism, such as Gallipoli, Hellfire Pass and Kokoda.
To be recognised at the cadet of the year, cadets voluntarily
participate in a series of competency tests that include general
knowledge and public speaking.
