Not much hoopla in NT

By LT Nicholas Munday

AIR Force was slammed by Army in a whitewash in both the men’s and women’s events at the recent NT interservice basketball championships.

Teams from RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal took on Army teams from No. 1 Brigade, Norcom and 161 Recce Squadron.

Apart from a few solo efforts, the Air Force team was no match at either end of the court in the men’s games. Army easily won the first and second games, 74-32 and 72-44 respectively.

Air Force picked up in the final men’s game, showing great fight and determination throughout the first three quarters to have the scores equal at 45-all. But the men didn’t have enough experience, losing 62-52.

The first of the women’s games had both Services scoring freely throughout the first half.

Both teams tightened up their defence in the second half, but the shooters still managed to dominate and Air Force lost 43-32.

Only four Air Force players managed to score in the second women’s game, which was lost 37-24.

Army continued its dominance in the final game, beating Air Force 31-17.
