Empires
is a historically based Real Time Strategy game released by
Activision.
It is a typical RTS, with the familiar click and point interface
and the normal collect resources and build structures and units
requirement that is a hallmark of this genre.
Players have the choice of playing as one of several countries
with every nation acquiring different units over time, each
with separate nationality traits.
Players can control land, sea and air units (depending on the
era of course), with the game having more than 200 different
unit types.
There are three story-based campaigns available to play.
Players
can follow the campaigns of Richard the Lionheart, Admiral Yi
and General George Patton, or they can select a random map to
play against the computer.
The games can be set up to be fast action-based games or longer
empire-building games with full resource management.
Empires supports multiple players who can either play cooperatively
or face off against each other. The graphics are one of the
stand out features of the game.
Buildings and units are superbly rendered, displaying a depth
of detail and authenticity.
If you are an RTS buff, then Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
is another game to add to the collection.
