End anglers strike it big
An
Air Force angler bagged the highest individual tally at the recent
Inter-Service Fishing Championships at in Darwin.
Steve Coopers haul of 49.8kg won him the title of Champion
Angler for Air Force.
However, it was not enough to stop Army from claiming the Champion
Servive honours.
More than 80 anglers competed in the event. As one of the major
recreation activities in the Top End is fishing, each year many
dedicated anglers gather at the Lodge of Dundee for the Inter-Service
Fishing Championships, which have been hotly contested for a number
of years in the Northern Territory.
The event began with safety briefings, rules and regulations. The
competition ran from 8am on the Friday to midday on the Sunday.
Each night at 7pm and at 1pm on the Sunday, competitors weighed
in their catch the best five fish, with only two from each
species allowed.
All results were calculated to award prizes. After many years of
being the bridesmaid, the Army finally broke through this year to
take out champion Service trophy with a tally of 113kg. Other awards
