Assistance for Spouses

Defence spouses are no longer alone in their quest to find employment thanks to new services supported by the Defence Spouse Employment Assistance Program (SEAP). Whether looking for work in a new posting locality or returning to the workforce after a break, spouses can now access Work Readiness Training using DCO approved Job Network Members (JNM).

Work Readiness Training can help Defence spouses with resumes and interview skills.

JNM advisers can also help preparing applications and exploring career paths.

DCO offers more support by maintaining community computers around Australia for Internet access and general use in the job hunt. The Job Search database and other employment agencies can be accessed online and applications can be sent via e-mail.

Defence spouses needing assistance with registration expenses or the cost of short course upgrades might be eligible for the Professional Registration Expense Payments (PREP) scheme, and those requiring childcare during Work Readiness Training can apply for DCO assistance in covering the cost.

  • For more information visit the DCO web site at www.dco.dod.gov.au or call FIND on 1800 020 031 (free call). All financial assistance provided to spouses under SEAP is Fringe Benefit Tax reportable
