CLEAR
blue skies, a light autumn breeze and the flying of the Air Force
flag provided the perfect backdrop for the arrival of Lieutenant
General Gerhard Back, German Air Force Chief of Staff, to Defence
Headquarters in Canberra on October 28.
Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Angus Houston welcomed LTGEN Back
to Canberra where he reviewed a ceremonial parade of Air Force personnel
from Australias Federation Guard and The Royal Military College
Band from Duntroon.
LTGEN Back was in Australia at the invitation of AIRMSHL Houston
for defence briefings and to enhance the relationship between the
Australian and German Air Forces.
During his stay LTGEN Back met with base commanders and personnel
from RAAF Base Glenbrook and Williamtown.
Highlights of the Australian visit included a flight in an F/A-18
courtesy of No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit at RAAF Base Williamtown,
a tour of the Blue Mountains and dinner with the Maritime Commander
in Sydney. LTGEN Back returned to Germany suitably impressed by
his Air Force experience down under.
