MORE than
50 years of family links with the Air Force were on parade during the
Air Force Memorial dedication ceremony.
Squadron Leader Ken Thomas had the honour of leading one of the largest
Air Force contingents along Anzac Parade for the major ceremonial event
while family members also had an active involvement in the day.
Flying Officer Christine Thomas works with the Air Force Reserve Staff
Group as a military historian and assisted with behind the scenes preparations
for the event, while son, Aircraftman Steven Thomas from No. 28 Squadron
had a support role. Five other Thomas children also watched from the crowd.
SQNLDR Thomas acknowledged the importance of the dedication ceremony and
felt privileged he and his family played an active part.
My family has been involved with the Air Force for over 50 years
if you take into account my father and brothers," he said.
This was a singular opportunity to witness a piece of living history
and through this event acknowledge the Air Force past while being part
of its future.
