SINCE
1921 artistic, photographic and written records have formed part
of the Air Forces heritage.
In 1987 annual awards for art, literature and photography were established
to enhance existing records and foster an interest in Air Force
heritage.
The winners of the 2002 Heritage Awards, held in conjunction with
the RAAF History Conference, were announced by Chief of Air Force
Air Marshal Angus Houston at the National Convention Centre in Canberra
on August 30. They are:
-
1st prize photographic category: Darren McNamara for Three of
the Best, depicting three well known combat fighter pilots.
-
2nd prize photographic category: Denis Hersey for A,R,H and J:
Four of a Kind.
-
1st prize art category: John Birt for The Guardians.
-
2nd prize art category: Steve Heyen for Homebound Diversion.
-
Peoples choice award for Art: Drew Harrison for Keeper of
the Flame.
-
1st prize literature category: Arthur Gatley for A Call to Arms:
War Service with the RAAF 1942-46.
This years entrants and winners are recognised as having
done a tremendous job in continuing to expand and enrich the collection.
The
art and photography categories were assessed by the Chief of
Air Force Advisory Committee and endorsed by AIRMSHL Houston.
The peoples choice award was based on votes by delegates
to the Aerospace Conference held in May.
