Defence
careers promoted
PERSONNEL
from No. 23 Squadron RAAF Base Amberley recently combined efforts
with local recruiting staff to provide Defence support for the annual
Brisbane Exhibition, affectionately known as the EKKA.
A comprehensive range of career information was made available to
those who visited the show this year with the emphasis on service
life and careers in Defence.
Squadron Leader Neil Shuker, who is responsible for recruitment
for 23SQN, described interest in the Reserve aspects of the display
as very encouraging.
Without doubt, participating in the EKKA display allowed people
the opportunity to become better acquainted with the prospect of
a career in the Air Force, or perhaps serving in a part time capacity
with the Air Force Reserves, SQNLDR Shuker said.
23SQN Public Affairs Officer Flying Officer Simon Paton acknowledged
that young people attending the show had shown considerable interest
in career information.
Our research is telling us that children as young as 11 or
12 are now looking for information to be better prepared for choosing
their secondary school subjects, FLGOFF Paton said.
The EKKA display allowed them an ideal environment to become
familiar with Air Force careers and the many options which are available
in today's Air Force, he said.
23SQN members provided support to the Brisbane Exhibition, which
ran over 10 days, to enhance the Reserves profile in the local community.
