FOR
No. 26 Squadron Reservist Corporal Iain Thompson doing the
job, plus a little more is all in a days work.
This sort of attitude has helped earn CPL Thompson, a Ground Support
Equipment Technician, the Airman of the Year Award for RAAF Base
Williamtown, an honour he received at a formal luncheon and presentation
held recently at the airmens mess.
CPL Thompson said he had turned up to the function unaware that
he would receive the award.
His tireless efforts, superior technical knowledge and problem-solving
ability led his Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader Linda New, to
nominate him for the award
Im very proud to receive the award and the recognition
only makes me want to work harder, CPL Thompson said. I've
always believed that if you put something into your work then you'll
get something back out of it.
He has worked with 26SQN since it formed in 1981 and in his spare
time he runs a business in design engineering. He is also involved
in robotics development.
I find the mix of jobs allows for a good exchange of ideas
and technical expertise between the commercial world and military,
he said.
His sights are set on becoming a commissioned officer in the Engineering
Branch of the Reserves, putting him in a better position to pass
on trade knowledge gained over the years.
The RAAF Williamtown Airmen of the Year recipient receives a perpetual
trophy and shield for job proficiency and personal achievement during
the year.
