Bowling them over

THE Australian Services Bowls Association (ASBA) is preparing for its national championships in Brisbane from September 16-20.

This year’s nationals are shaping as the biggest in recent years.

The championships incorporate a state competition in a combined service format and a national competition between the three services that follows World Bowls Board and Bowls Australia rules.

Interservice and combined service competitions are conducted at both state and national level with the national team playing fixtures against visiting countries. They also compete every second year at the Arafura Games in Darwin.

This year’s selection process will again pick a national team to contest the games as well as a team of four to represent the ADF at the Asian-Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast the week after the nationals.

All services are represented at the nationals. ADF members, including Reservists, are eligible to compete but must be registered with a civilian bowling association.

Inquiries to ASBA president WO2 Mick Carley on (02) 6933 8409 or secretary WOFF Russell Wise on (02) 6265 1370.
