Australia Day Honours
February, 2001
This year's Australia Day honours list recognises 14 members of the Royal
Australian Air Force named for their outstanding efforts in field of service,
not to mention the Chief of Defence.
Admiral Christopher Alexander Barrie was appointed a Companion
in the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent service to the Australian Defence
Force as Chief of the Defence Force.
'Admiral Barrie is the consummate military professional who has successfully
led the Australian Defence Force through an unprecedented period of turmoil,
upheaval and operational challenges to emerge with a structure and vision
which will enable it to operate effectively into the new millennium. His
achievement of the highest military status of Chief of the Defence Force
is testimony to 40 years of unswerving dedication, commitment and the
pursuit of excellence in serving the nation of Australia.'
Air Vice-Marshal Alan William Titheridge was appointed an Officer
of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the Royal
Australian Air Force as the Air Commander Australia and Deputy Chief of
Air Force.
'Air Vice Marshal Titheridge's professional competence, leadership, authority
and decisiveness are hallmarks of a highly successful career spanning
more than 35 years. As Deputy Chief of Air Force he has excelled and,
through his achievements, he has ensured that the Royal Australian Air
Force is well placed to serve the nation in the new century.'
Wing Commander Godfrey Noel Bradford was appointed a Member of
the Order of Australia (AM) for exceptional service to the Royal Australian
Air Force in the field of logistics in the combined, joint and single
service arenas.
'Wing Commander Bradford has been involved in developing, implementing
and executing operational logistic plans for the United Nations Peace
Keeping Division for Operations in Somalia, Rwanda and Bosnia, as well
as for the Multinational Force in East Timor. An outstanding officer who
has served the Royal Australian Air Force, his community and country with
enthusiasm, great professionalism and loyalty.'
Squadron Leader Kevin Charles Bruce was appointed a Member of
the Order of Australia (AM) for exceptional service to the Royal Australian
Air Force as Training Flight Commander, Number 36 and Number 37 Squadrons,
and Senior Pilot C-130J aircraft.
'Squadron Leader Bruce has made an outstanding contribution to the success
of the Royal Australian Air Force's airlift effort. As Training Flight
Commander, he was pivotal in meeting numerous significant challenges.
As the senior pilot for the C-130J aircraft, he has been crucial to the
safe and effective introduction of the aircraft into service with the
Royal Australian Air Force. His enthusiasm, commitment and professional
knowledge reflect great credit on himself and the Royal Australian Air
Force.
Group Captain Andrew Edward Kilgour was appointed a Member of
the Order of Australia (AM) for exceptional service to the Australian
Defence Force in the field of logistics and support.
'Group Captain Kilgour is an officer of the highest calibre who has provided
exceptional service to the Australian Defence Force in a number of demanding
logistics support appointments, in particular as the Officer-in-Charge
of No 303 Logistics Support Flight and as Chief Staff Officer Logistics
and Personnel at Headquarters Australian Theatre. His absolute professionalism
and unstinting dedication reflect great credit on himself and the Australian
Defence Force.'
Warrant Officer Wayne Barrie Patch was awarded the Medal of the
Order of Australia (OAM) for meritorious service to the Royal Australian
Air Force in the field of aviation maintenance and logistics.
'Warrant Officer Patch's loyalty and enthusiasm, combined with his impeccable
professionalism and communication skills, have resulted in a consistently
outstanding level of service. His influence on logistics within the Royal
Australian Air Force has been far reaching. His many accomplishments and
capacity to inspire have earned him wide respect, and he continues to
be an excellent role model for other airmen.'
Wing Commander Fiona Dorothy Cook was awarded the Conspicuous
Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement in the Australian Defence
Force Movements Organisation.
'Wing Commander Cook is an exceptional officer who has displayed consistent
professional excellence, initiative and outstanding achievement over a
series of postings in various movements organisations. Her dedication
has had a significant impact on Australian movement's organisations and
on those of foreign countries. Her contributions to these organisations
have resulted in substantial savings of resources, international recognition,
and enhancements in the operational capability of the Australian Defence
Force.'
Warrant Officer Robert John Eley was awarded the Conspicuous Service
Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement as the Australian Defence Force
Academy Sergeant Major.
'Warrant Officer Eley is an exceptional airman who displayed outstanding
dedication to duty during a time of great change at the Australian Defence
Force Academy. Unswervingly loyal to the Australian Defence Force and
with an extremely innovative approach to his duties, he devoted himself
to developing and maintaining the highest standards of discipline among
the staff and the cadets, and to strongly supporting reform of the Academy's
military environment, as well as to ensuring the cadets' welfare. His
achievements reflect great credit on himself and the Royal Australian
Air Force.
Squadron Leader Andrew Noel Glover was awarded the Conspicuous
Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement as the commonwealth test
pilot and aircraft captain on the P-3C aircraft Update Implementation
Project.
'An outstanding officer who displayed superior professional performance,
excellent judgement and leadership, and exceptional devotion to duty in
his role as resident test pilot and aircraft captain of the AP-3C Orion
prototype aircraft. Squadron Leader Glover's outstanding achievement,
professional approach and dedication to the aircraft test program have
been critical to the project's success, and have helped to ensure that
the Royal Australian Air Force receives an effective update to it's fleet
of Orion maritime patrol aircraft.'
Squadron Leader Geoffrey Harland was awarded the Conspicuous Service
Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement as an F-111 aircraft navigator
and junior executive in Number 82 Wing.
'Squadron Leader Harland is an exceptional officer who has consistently
achieved outstanding results over a number of years. In addition to his
flying-related skills, his high professional standards, operational knowledge
and unwavering dedication have seen him excel in a variety of key staff
appointments. His achievements have contributed significantly to the operational
effectiveness of Number 82 Wing and exemplify the finest traditions of
the Royal Australian Air Force.'
Pilot Officer John William Potts was awarded the Conspicuous Service
Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement as an instructor at the Royal
Australian Air Force School of Technical Training.
'An exceptional member who has displayed consistent professional excellence,
initiative and leadership, and outstanding dedication to duty. Pilot Officer
Potts successfully developed and implemented workplace relationships training
that incorporates the principles of equity and diversity, and implemented
a quality systems approach to place his unit at the forefront of endorsed
training organistations.'
Flight Sergeant Christopher Allen Badman was awarded the Conspicuous
Service Medal (CSM) for outstanding service in the promotion administration
area within the Directorate of Personnel Airmen.
'Flight Sergeant Badman has demonstrated outstanding adaptability, innovation,
dedication and organisational skills in an extraordinarily challenging
situation. In a demanding and rapidly changing employment field in which
he has had no previous experience, he has produced innovative and effective
results to a number of significant challenges. His service reflects great
credit on himself and the Royal Australian Air Force.'
Warrant Officer Edmund Joseph Mildren was awarded the Conspicuous Service
Medal (CSM) for outstanding service as the Squadron Warrant Officer, Number
27 (City of Townsville) Squadron.
'Warrant Officer Mildren is an exceptional airman who has exhibited an
outstanding level of dedication and devotion to duty beyond that required
of a person of his rank and employment stream. Through his dedication
and commitment to the personnel of Number 27 Squadron, Warrant Officer
Mildren has earned himself a reputation for excellence. His service reflects
great credit upon himself and the Royal Australian Air Force.'
Flight Lieutenant Reginald Wesley Mills was awarded the Conspicuous
Service Medal (CSM) for outstanding service by improving data integrity
in the Standard Defence Supply System.
'Flight Lieutenant Mills instigated and coordinated a program to resolve
data integrity problems faced by Support Command Australia (Air Force).
He consistently displayed professional excellence, initiative and inspirational
dedication. His efforts corrected and prevented future corruption of data
on the Australian Defence Force's very large and expensive aviation inventory,
and enabled Support Command Australia (Air Force) units to manage their
assets better. His outstanding professionalism and service reflect great
credit on himself and the Royal Australian Air Force.'
Sergeant Gordon Parker was awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal
(CSM) for outstanding service as the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge
of the Communications Centre, Number 1 Radar Surveillance Unit.
'Sergeant Parker's outstanding service has been characterised by an extraordinary
commitment to his duties while maintaining the very highest professional
standards. On numerous occasions, his unstinting devotion has meant that
he has single-handedly ensured the serviceability of Number 1 Radar Surveillance
Unit's strategic surveillance capability. His professionalism reflects
great credit on himself and the Royal Australian Air Force.
