Motivated to race a 40ft RNZN yacht against the Kiwis and Brits? The RNZN has invited the RAN and the RN to participate in a Tri-nations Navy Sailing Challenge between January 14 and February 8.
The plan is for representative teams to compete in a passage race from Auckland to the Bay of Islands, to race around the buoys in the Bay of Islands Race Week, and then cruise back to Auckland at a pace enabling the conduct of sail training.
Navy Sailing (NS) is organising and sponsoring a representative team of two managers and 10 sailors for the sailing challenge.
While yacht/dinghy experience is required for some positions, other positions are open to individuals with little or no sailing background.
All positions are open to nomination, with selection being based on both competitive experience and future potential commitment to Navy/Service sailing.
The Tri-nations Navy Sailing Challenge is intended to be a challenging and competitive event focusing on all aspects of core mariner skills, teamwork, physical and adventurous training.
Subject to the success of this event, reciprocal events will be run at intervals of 18 months to two years.
More details and team nomination forms are available from CMDR Martin Linsley: martin.linsley@defence.gov.au (tel: 02 6266 3873).
