Reining in corrosion

Prevention and control of corrosion in ADF aircraft has become easier thanks to Dr Bruce Hinton from DSTO.
One of the most significant contributions made by Dr Hinton and his research team has been their pioneering use of preventative compounds to treat existing corrosion, saving many maintenance hours, decreasing aircraft downtime and contributing to overall aircraft safety.
Dr Hinton has also been responsible for the environmental monitoring of aircraft which enables maintenance to be carried out as required, depending on the condition of the structure rather than through spot checks at periodic intervals.
His pioneering work will be applied to the incoming MRH90 helicopters as well as the Joint Strike Fighter aircraft when they enter service. |
