In a simple ceremony at Fleet Headquarters recently, CDRE Ray Griggs handed over the role of Deputy Fleet Commander to CDRE Simon Cullen.

After 18 months in one of the Fleet’s most challenging jobs, CDRE Griggs heads to Canberra where he will take up his next appointment as Director General Navy Strategic Policy and Futures.

CDRE Griggs will be responsible to Deputy Chief of Navy for the development of policy, planning and guidance on military strategies and assessments.

CDRE Griggs’ time as Deputy Fleet Commander was full of challenges; however he emphasised at his handover that it was the people that made his time at Fleet Headquarters a success.

Having completed his posting at United States Central Command in Tampa, Florida, CDRE Cullen is looking forward with great enthusiasm to returning to Navy and undertaking the role of Deputy Fleet Commander.

During his two years at Central Command, CDRE Cullen undertook duties as Director of the Combined Planning Group and Deputy Director of Strategy, Plans and Policy.
