Book retraces Holt story

Volume 50, No. 17, September 20, 2007

A new book called Calls to the Deep chronicles the history of Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt at Exmouth in Western Australia.

The Australian and United States governments commissioned one of the world’s most powerful naval communication facilities in this remote region 40 years ago this month.

The station started as a US facility and became a joint facility in the mid-1970s before becoming fully Australian-operated in the mid-1990s.

The book, written by Brian Humphreys and published by the Defence Materiel Organisation, is available through the Defence Publishing Service.
