Volume 50, No. 16, September 06, 2007

HONOURED: Dominique Gervolino receives her award from LCDR Scott Walker.
A locally engaged staff member at the Australian Consulate-General in Noumea has been awarded a Silver Commendation for her contribution in the repatriation of injured personnel and the remains of the two soldiers who died in Fiji waters in a helicopter accident in December 2006.

Dominique Gervolino, executive assistant at the Australian Consulate-General Noumea, was presented with a certificate and a Silver Medallion from LCDR Scott Walker, who is in New Caledonia for the preparatory meetings for joint Exercise Equateur.

During a brief ceremony held at the Consulate, RADM Moffitt, Deputy Chief of Joint Operations, congratulated the recipient.

“Your ability to work the fine line of diplomacy and operational requirements was of the highest standard and not only achieved our aim but also enhanced the reputation of the Australian Defence Force in the eyes of the French and New Caledonian authorities,” RADM Moffitt said.

It is exceptional for such a commendation to be awarded to non-Australian civilian personnel.
