The words of the commander of Australian Naval Submarine Group, CDRE Rick Shalders, were read out at the 40th anniversary celebrations at Neutral Bay.
The navy’s submarines are now based on the other side of the country at HMAS Stirling and CDRE Shalders was unable to be at the event but he sent a letter that was read out, and was also printed in the program.
HMAS Platypus clearly has not been forgotten in the west.
On Monday, August 20, about 60 personnel held a party in its honour at submarine headquarters at HMAS Stirling. |
