In Northern Territory style, Fleet Support Unit Darwin (FSU - D) was inaugurated on July 6.
This was the last of four FSU sites in Australia operating under the FSU Australia banner chaired by Chief Staff Officer Engineering CSO(E) CAPT Toff Idrus.
Guest speaker CAPT Toff Idrus quoted the FSU Australia Mission Statement: “The Fleet Support Unit is an integrated organisation within Fleet Command which has been structured to provide skills enhancement opportunities for our technical sailors, to deliver combined and deployable military and technical support to our ships and submarines, and to advance and nurture specialist technical expertise in niche areas where the rapid availability of such expertise is in the direct interest of the preparedness and readiness of our operational Fleet.”
CAPT Idrus unveiled the FSU Darwin Ceremonial Life Ring. The Ceremonial Life Ring along with the unveiling cabinet were both constructed and designed by FSU Darwin personnel. Afterwards the youngest member of FSU Darwin SMNMT Brendan Roby and CAPT Toff Idrus both cut the Inauguration cake.
