Leeuwin dispatched
The Government has dispatched hydrographic survey ship HMAS Leeuwin to the vicinity of Dirk Hartog island in Western Australia after a claim by a group that it has found the wreckage of the HMAS Sydney II in the area. The Sydney was lost with all hands after an action with the German raider Kormoran in late 1941 and the site of its wreck has been a mystery every since.

Mastex 07
The RAN and the Royal Malaysian Navy conducted a bilateral exercise, Exercise Mastex 07, from August 9-17 in the Western Australian Exercise Area and Lancelin Range. A series of graduated training activities and weapons practices focused on aspects of maritime warfare common to both forces.
