EXPLOSIVELY FUNNY: The Simpsons Movie lives up to its expected level of hilarity.
The Simpsons Movie
Directed by David Silverman

Full frontal nudity, references to bestiality and drugs… it’s a wonder that this movie is only rated PG.

The film includes familiar themes that episodes have previously covered, including the environment, Homer’s selfishness and family squabbles.

The story is quite simple and nothing new to Simpsons fans. Homer dumps a load of pig excrement in the lake, which pollutes the water.

Springfield is cordoned off in a huge glass dome by the Environmental Protection Authority.

Homer is the city’s only saviour and goes from villain to hero. In the movie’s subplots, Lisa finds her true love, Bart looks to Ned Flanders as a father figure and, my favourite, Homer gets a new pet – Spider Pig.

The film could have been a little longer as the 87 minutes just went too quickly and some of the subplots faded away as the movie progressed.

I was left wondering what happened to Spider Pig.

The animation is highly stylised and it’s packed with the usual gags and references to politics and society.

I give it four stars and a big “Woo Hoo”.
