SBLT Dean Thompson has returned to HMAS Ballarat with new knowledge and three months worth of stories after participating in a course with a very international flavour in Singapore.
The course, for Watch Keeping and Navigation, was conducted at the Naval Officers’ Advanced School at the SAFTI Military Institute.
SBLT Thompson was one of 14 people on the course, which started in April, alongside junior officers from the Netherlands, Brunei and Singapore. Completing the international contingent was the main instructor who was a retired commodore from the Indian Navy.
The course included two sea sorties aboard Republic of Singapore Navy Ship Punngol, taking in four pilotages within the Singapore Straits, one of the most congested water ways in the world.
Having passed, SBLT Thompson returned home to Sydney for a much-deserved week’s break before returning to his ship. |
