Registering next of kin data

Volume 50, No. 13, July 26, 2007

Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and Defence Australian Public Service (APS) personnel can now record and update their Next of Kin (NOK) contact details in PMKeyS using PMKeyS Self Service (PSS). PMKeyS is the sole source of emergency and NOK contact data for the Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) and is the authoritative source of data referred to in times of crisis.

The recording and maintenance of your emergency and NOK contact details is crucial to ensure that the right people are notified in the event of a crisis in a timely and compassionate manner and are provided with appropriate support.

When nominating your NOK for notification purposes, you must ensure that they are over 18 years of age, have the capacity to make decisions regarding the notification, have knowledge of your family dynamics and are able to provide contact details of other family members that require formal notification.

To record your Next of Kin contact details in PMKeyS, simply log on to PSS via the DRN, navigate to the My Personal Data > Emergency Contacts page, and record a new contact, or identify an existing contact, as your NOK for notification purposes.
Additional instructions for updating this information are contained in the PSS User Guides and DEFGRAM 274/2007 - PMKeyS Self Service - Changes to emergency contact functionality to enable recording of Next of Kin contact details.

To support this initiative, it is imperative that your NOK details are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure their accuracy. Further information regarding the casualty notification process is contained in CDF Directive 29/2006 which is available via the Defence Intranet at:http://intranet.defence.gov.au/cdf/cdf_directive_29_2006.pdf (Members who do not have access to PSS are able to advise of their NOK contact details by submitting an AD159 – ADF Next of Kin and Emergency Contact Details form – for processing by their administering unit or MPAC.)
