The Directorate of Sailors’ and Career Management (DSCM) Fleet Base West (FBW) staff, celebrated their second birthday at DSCM FBW in style, along with personnel from WA home-ported ships and submarines.

Commanding Officer of HMAS Stirling, CAPT Steve Davies and Warrant Officer Richard Elsom joined in to mark the occasion.

At the cake cutting ceremony, WO Richard Elsom said, “The importance of continuing to encourage our sailors to be active in the development of their careers can not be understated - it’s already paying real dividends in helping our people achieve their future aspirations”.

Since opening two years ago, DSCM FBW has conducted over 4,500 career interviews giving sailors posted to the Western Australia area, greatly improved access to career management advice and services.

The next Navy career management milestone will be realised in the later part of the year when it is hoped that all sailors will have completed a Five Year Career Plan (FYCP).

The FYCP database is maintained by DSCM in Canberra and utilised to assist the Local Career Management Centres to ensure that appropriately qualified people are in the right place at the right time.

Sailors who require assistance on how to fill in a FYCP proposal are encouraged to speak to their Divisional staff and contact their career manager. FBW (08)95535680, FBE (02)93593915, Cairns (07) 40420118, Darwin (08)89355957
