READY: Four of the K for Kids team.

It’s not their usual mode of transport but it’s certainly one that the members of the 805 squadron from HMAS Albatross in Nowra are hoping will grab some attention.

Instead of spinning their rotor blades, from June 18 five men from the squadron will be pumping their legs for more than 850km from Coffs Harbour to Nowra to raise more than $10,000 for Camp Quality.

Coffs Harbour has special significance for the 805 squadron who were last November given Freedom of Entry into the city after it became its adopted city through the ADF.

The seven-day cycle of the Ks for Kids team will be broken up by one day in Newcastle, where the team and their seven support crew will be displaying some of their other talents in the mall – busking, making balloon sculptures and handing out showbags.

Along the way they’ll be polishing up their lawn bowling skills as well, with a few tournaments scheduled. A special web page (www.navy.gov.au/805charitybikeride) will be set up so people can follow the team’s progress, as well as pledge their support by donating directly.
