Op Relief rules
The Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Davyd Thomas, has announced that ‘business rules’ for Operational Relief duties will be implemented across the Fleet from July 1. The new rules will afford RAN members protected, or ‘quarantined’, periods of respite after they return to their ship or establishment on completion of each period of Op Relief duty. For each period of up to seven days Op Relief duties that a member performs, they will be afforded one month of ‘quarantine’ from further Op Relief duties, up to a maximum of three months.

Book for deployed
A special gift for ADF personnel deployed overseas is being produced by a team of Defence volunteers. The cyber team has been collaborating through the DRN global folder network on a book of short stories, poetry, illustrations and photographs to be published and distributed free to deployed personnel. Project coordinator and editor Heather Sadler is looking for people to contribute and will accept submissions until June 30. Submissions/enquiries to heather.sadler@defence.gov.au.

Peacekeeper memorial
The federal government has made an initial grant of $200,000 for a memorial to Australian peacekeepers to be built on Anzac Parade in Canberra. The Australian Peacekeeping Memorial Committee needs to raise additional funds. Donations are tax deductible. Visit www.peacekeepingmemorial.org.au for details.
