It was a great day for LCDR Ian Davies.

A supply officer with nearly three decades in the RAN, Ian and his first son, SMNWTR Brendon Davies, gathered at the ACT Defence Recruiting office at Phillip on May 28 for the induction of his second son, Shaun, into the RAN.

Ian, now Deputy Director Navy Employment Conditions, underwent officer training at HMAS Creswell, before doing his supply course at HMAS Cerberus.

Recent postings include RANLO Bahrain, Staff Officer to Head Defence Health Services, HQ JTF 633 Baghdad and PSO to Head Maritime Systems.

“Brendon’s 21,” he said. “He joined the Navy in January last year and served in (HMAS) Tobruk in the Gulf earlier this year before taking up his current posting at HMAS Albatross.

“He’s applied to work as a writer in CN’s office and would like to become a supply officer in due course.”

Ian said Shaun, now undergoing recruit training at HMAS Cerberus, was joining to become a marine technician – mechanical.

Ian and his wife, Catherine, a civilian Defence employee whose father was in the Navy, live at Gordon.

“We also have a daughter, Michelle,” he said. “She’s not in the Navy – yet.”
