Dragon boat Navy

Edition 5008, 17 May, 2007

The Australian Dragon Boat Federation held its Australian Dragon Boat National Titles at the Penrith Olympic Rowing course over the Easter long weekend.

Numerous Navy personnel participated in the three-day event, competing with teams ranging from Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

The Australian Defence Force Academy, (ADFA), also fielded a couple of teams, which, considering the very short time they have been paddling Dragon Boats, will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Two Navy paddlers, Mark Crockford (HMAS Melbourne) and Graeme Bacon (HMAS Darwin), paddling with the Sydney based Pacific Dragons team, tasted success in all three blue ribbon events of the competition, the 200m, 500m and 1000m men’s open races.

Adding to the success in these events, the Pacific Dragons team also became the first Dragon Boat team in Australia to break the 4 minute mark for the 1000m.
