An allowance for Navy members filling an instructor’s position is being finalised to reflect the extra experience and responsibilities entailed with the role.
The Navy Instructor and Navy Recruit Training Instructor Allowances are part of the first phase of the Government’s ADF Recruiting and Retention Strategy. They will be implemented by July this year.
Recruit training instructors will receive a higher rate to compensate for the additional demands placed on personnel posted to these positions.
Navy aims to pay these allowances to personnel posted to qualifying instructor positions, subject to certain eligibility criteria being met. Details of the eligibility criteria and the qualifying instructional positions in the process of being determined.
Eligible Instructors will qualify for either the Navy Training Instructor Allowance for personnel posted to any Navy instructional position – a $5,000 pa allowance will apply – or the Recruit Training Instructor Allowance for personnel posted to Recruit and Officers initial training instructional positions – a $10,000 pa allowance will apply.
Both allowances will be paid as a lump sum and are due after an instructor completes each 12 months of service in that position (pro rated after the first 12 months) for the duration of that posting.Members who have completed 12 months as an instructor at the start of the scheme will be entitled to an annual payment at that point, and on each subsequent anniversary or upon posting. |
